Tokyo Day 2

For our second day in Tokyo, we started by visiting the Imperial Palace East Gardens and Kokyo Gaien National Garden. I still remember the rows of cherry blossoms we walked past—they were so beautiful. Even though it had been raining in Tokyo, I was really glad we got to see them in bloom.

Then, we walked over to Azabudai Hills, a newly constructed skyscraper with amazing architecture. Inside, we got to experience TeamLab Borderless, which was one of the coolest museums I’ve ever been to. The lights in each room were mesmerizing, and I loved the concept of wandering, exploring, and discovering. The fact that there was no map and that the artwork changed over time made me want to keep going back to the same rooms to see what had changed.

Even though it was indoors, I took a lot of inspiration for outdoor design. The idea of encouraging people to explore, rather than just guiding them from point A to point B, is really important in landscape design, especially when thinking about circulation.

FOOD: Omurice

Before we entered TeamLab Borderless, we went to a restaurant called Kitchen Dada in Minato City that serves omurice, which is a Japanese omelet served with tomato sauce rice wrapped with egg. This restaurant offered a very homemade style omurice, which was very tasty and comforting.
